Kevin Birn is responsible for carbon research at S&P Global Energy CERA. This includes carbon markets, carbon management, emissions modeling, emissions insight and analytics. Kevin’s responsibilities also include leading The Center of Emissions Excellence, a research area dedicated to accelerating and ensuring consistency and interoperability of S&P Global Energy’s emissions capabilities.  Kevin has over a decade of experience engaging in and advising governments, companies, and industry on emission accounting estimation as well as decarbonization strategies.  Kevin is also an established thought leader on the Canadian oil market, and continues to serve as Chief Analyst, Canadian Oil Markets, for S&P Global Energy.


Kevin is a Member of the Board at Emissions Reduction Alberta, an Executive Fellow at the University of Calgary School of Public Policy, a member of the Executive Committee for the Global Energy Show, an advisor at Avatar Innovations, and co-chair of the International Emissions Trading Association Task Force on Carbon Accounting.  Heholds an undergraduate degree in business and a graduate degree in economics from the University of Alberta.
