Martijn Rats

Martijn Rats is Morgan Stanley’s Global Commodities Strategist and Head of the European Energy Equity Research team. A Managing Director at the firm, he leads Morgan Stanley’s analysis of global oil and natural gas markets, advising institutional investors on macro, physical market, and equity implications across the energy complex. 

Martijn has been ranked No. 1 in the II/Extel survey (2015–2021 and 2024–2025) and was inducted into the Extel Research Hall of Fame. Earlier in his career, he covered the Oil Services sector, earning the No. 1 Extel ranking in 2010 and 2011. 

He joined Morgan Stanley in 2002. Prior to that, he was a management consultant at OC&C Strategy Consultants in the Netherlands and the UK. Martijn holds an MSc in Physics from Delft University of Technology, an MSc in Finance from London Business School, was a visiting scholar at Stanford University’s Physics Department, and is a CFA charterholder.
